Loma Linda University Cancer Center has added three cancer researchers to its team. Frankis Almaguel, PhD, MD, will serve as director of the Molecular Imaging and Therapeutics Research Program; Kim Payne, PhD, will serve as director of the Pediatric Leukemia Research Program; and Pramil Singh, DrPH, will serve as director of the Tobacco Cessation Research Program. UC Riverside’s School of Medicine will be able to train more doctors after Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a budget that allocates $25 million in ongoing funding to the med school. UCR Research Helps in Efforts Against COVID-19
Researchers around the world are focusing on ways to combat the COVID-19 virus, and the Inland Empire is making some notable contributions. At UC Riverside, Jiayu Liao, associate professor of bioengineering, researches how injured body cells call for help. He has been studying how to regulate the body’s response to influenza, which could help in the fight against the novel coronavirus. Read more about his research here.
